Plus, with endless topping options like fresh berries, chocolate drizzle, or whipped cream, you can customize it to suit any craving. Get ready to impress your family and friends with a cheesecake that’s as beautiful as it is delicious!

Ingredients

  • Nonstick cooking spray
  • 7 oz. graham cracker
  • 2 cups sugar, plus 1 tablespoon, divided
  • 5 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 32 oz. cream cheese, room temperature
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 2 cups sour cream
  • 5 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 pinch kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 large eggs
  • toppings (if desired)

Preparation

  1. Preheat your oven to 350˚F. Grease a 10-inch springform pan with nonstick spray.
  2. In a food processor, combine the graham crackers, 1 tablespoon of sugar, and the melted butter. Pulse to combine until the texture is similar to wet sand.
  3. Press the graham cracker crumbs firmly into the prepared pan with the bottom of a glass, creating a dense even layer about ¼ inch thick.
  4. Bake for 8-10 minutes, until golden brown. Transfer to a wire rack and let cool to room temperature.
  5. In a large bowl, combine the cream cheese, remaining 2 cups of sugar, and the salt. Use an electric hand mixer to blend until well-combined and fluffy.
  6. Add the heavy cream and beat to incorporate.
  7. Add the sour cream, flour, salt, and vanilla extract; beat to combine.
  8. Add the eggs, 1 at a time, and mix until fully combined. Do not to over-beat. The mixture should be smooth and creamy.
  9. Pour the cream cheese mixture into the cooled crust.
  10. Wrap the outside of the springform pan tightly with foil and place the pan in a large baking dish. Fill the dish with 1 inch of boiling water.
  11. Gently transfer the baking dish to the oven and bake for 1 hour.
  12. Without opening the oven door, turn off the heat and let the cheesecake rest for 1 hour.
  13. Remove the springform pan from the baking dish and unwrap the foil. Run a small knife gently around the outside of the cheesecake to loosen it from the sides of the pan.
  14. Cover the pan with plastic wrap and place in the refrigerator; leave overnight.
  15. Remove the cheesecake from the refrigerator and release the springform pan.
  16. Enjoy as is, or top with cherry or blueberry pie filling, fresh berries, chocolate sauce, whipped cream or your favorite topping.
  17. Serves 8.

The holidays are right around the corner, which means flashy lights, colorful ornaments, shiny tinsel and blow ups of Frosty the Snowman will be in every direction that you turn! Though the flashiness of the decorations can be beautiful, sometimes you may want to go back and just enjoy the simplicity of a natural green wreath.

Wreaths are a beautiful and classic decoration that can be adorned on windows, doors, fireplaces and practically anywhere you can think of. That being said, as beautiful as wreaths are, they can tend to look a bit plain if you’re not a fan of the all-natural look.

But, what if you still want a natural looking wreath with decorations that aren’t flashy? We can help! Decorating a holiday wreath doesn’t have to be boring. Use items from around your house to create a beautifully unique wreath that will catch the eyes of anyone.

We’re going to make two different types of garland to wrap around your beautiful wreath with supplies that you can find in your house, or yard!

Garland One: a classic garland strand that is easy and delicious to make! All you need is popcorn (preferably not buttered) and cranberries. This is a classic staple to any holiday time décor . . . and it’s easy to make as well. Pop your popcorn and have thread and a sewing needle at the ready. Once you have acquired your ingredients, lace your popcorn and cranberries in any pattern that you like. The great part about garland is that it’s all up to you! Design and create the perfect strand of garland that will look great on your wreath.

Garland Two: this is a strand of garland that is a bit more difficult to create, but still equally as beautiful. All you need are dried oranges, cinnamon sticks, small pinecones and twine. You may be asking; how do I make dried oranges? Don’t worry, it’s simple:

Take an orange (preferably naval, or blood orange) and cut it into various wheels. Pat your citrus dry with a paper towel and arrange on a baking sheet. Now this is the boring part . . . place the sheet in the oven at 170 degrees for six to seven hours! Rotate the baking sheet every two to three hours to prevent burning. This is a tedious step, but it will ensure completely dried oranges and a wonderful smelling home!

Now, take your dried oranges and weave twine in and out its dried flesh (be careful not to tear anything).

Now that we have dried oranges, it’s time to put everything together! Use your twine and–to your liking–combine your cinnamon sticks, pinecones and oranges.

Making decorations for the winter season is easy. There are plenty of ingredients and supplies to make exciting and eye-catching wreaths for the whole winter season!

Happy Halloween! Considered one of the spookiest holidays of the year, it is understandable that one would want matching décor to go along with the theme. That being said, there is no such thing as a pure black flower to match the Halloween aesthetic to a spooky bouquet . . . until now! Lucky for you, there is a simple (and easy) way to achieve a pure black flower for the Halloween season.

This Halloween, we are changing it up and dying flowers. I know what you’re thinking; how can you dye flowers? Well, it’s much easier than you think!

What you need:

  1. White flowers (They don’t have to be just roses, they can range from daisies, lilies, roses, baby’s breath, tulips and more.)
  2. Water
  3. A knife
  4. Food dye (Both gel and drops are fine, just make sure you warm your water to melt the drops.)
  5. A cup

Let’s Get Started:

Step One: Take your flower of choice and clean the stem of all leaves. Other than the stem, we want no greenery on the actual flower itself.

Step Two: Once you have cleaned off your flower stem, make an “X” symbol at the bottom of the flower with a knife (be careful). This will encourage a better flow of water to the stem and petals itself.

Step Three: Now, this is where the craft could become messy! Once you have decided on a black food coloring, place 7-8 drops of dye into your water. I prefer room temp to slightly warm water, but it’s up to you!

Step Four: Once your water is dark in color, place your rose(s) in the water and let them soak for—at least—24 hours. After they have soaked your white flowers should be a dark shade of gray to black!

TIP: Make sure you leave your flowers in the water even after they’ve soaked.

There you have it! A super simple way to create a beautiful and spooky bouquet for the Halloween season. Don’t want black flowers? No problem, you can choose practically any color to dye your flowers with. Follow the same steps for an array of unique flowers that are sure to catch anyone’s eye!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!🎃

Good morning! There’s no better way to start the day than a strong cup of coffee. Though a cup of black coffee is always a reliable choice, there are so many variations of caffeine intake that differ from a regular cup of joe. The list of hot and cold beverages can seem extensive, and a bit overwhelming, but we are here to make that easier! Here is a breakdown of your favorite coffee beverages, and how to make them.

Drip Coffee: Drip coffee is your regular black coffee! It can also be referred to as “filter coffee” as the hot water passes through a coffee filter and brews with the coffee grounds. You can make drip coffee in a pot or Keurig, as it’s quick and can be altered to taste stronger or weaker based on flavor palette.

Cold Brew: Cold Brew is much like coffee, but has a stronger and smoother flavor that many people tend to prefer. To make cold brew is simple! Take coarse coffee grounds and put them in a mason bar. Pour cold water over your grounds (depending on your flavor palette, some people like a 3-1 ratio of water to grounds or a 4-1 ratio of water to grounds). Leave your cold brew in the fridge for 24 hours and strain your grounds once the flavor is to your liking.

Check out our Maple-Pumpkin Cold Brew!

Latte: If you’ve never made a latte, then it may seem a bit overwhelming, but don’t worry! Lattes are a simple coffee beverage that has two ingredients: espresso and milk. With the espresso at the bottom of your cup, froth your milk. A proper latte will have steamed milk and a light layer of foam on the top. Add a syrup of your liking to add a new depth of flavor

Try making our White Chocolate Pumpkin Spice Latte!

Latte Macchiato: Much like a latte, a Latte Macchiato includes the two same ingredients: espresso and milk. Though the ingredients are the same, the process is slightly different. You will froth your milk and add it to your glass. Lastly, you will add your shot of espresso to the top and watch as the espresso slowly combines into the milk.

Cappuccino: If you ever order a cappuccino and are shocked that it’s so light in weight, don’t be alarmed! Unlike lattes which are milk heavy, cappuccinos are light in weight because the cup is primarily frothy milk. This beverage is filled with the airy foam that your milk frother will create, and generally it’s easier to extract the foam with a spoon

Mocha: Much like a latte, a mocha is the same concept with the acceptation of added chocolate syrup. In your cup, add your hot espresso and your desired amount of mocha syrup. Combine the chocolate into the hot espresso by swirling them together then top off your drink with a layer of smooth foamy milk!

Check out our Mocha-Almond Meringue Cake!

Red Eye: Want an extra jolt of caffeine in the morning? Try a red eye! This drink is purely caffeine as it’s a layer of black coffee and a shot of espresso. The ratio of drip coffee to espresso is completely determined by what you prefer.

Americano: Lastly, the americano! This drink is simple as it requires two ingredients: espresso and water. You read it right! An americano is a simple beverage of an espresso shot topped with hot water. This beverage tends to replicate drip coffee and it’s a tame way of drinking your espresso if the flavor is too strong for you.

With this list in mind, elevate your morning coffee game and take on the day . . caffeinated!  Shop Price Chopper/Makret 32 for all of your coffee needs!

Happy Mardi Gras! This popular holiday is celebrated by many and is widely known for its extravagant and lively celebrations in New Orleans! This celebration is filled with food, parties, drinking and lively celebrations that take up the entire city. When one thinks of Mardi Gras, there are three colors that should come to mind: green, purple and gold (or yellow!) The colors were chosen by Rex, King of the Carnival and all represent different symbols. Purple stands for justice, while green stands for faith and gold stands for power. Though this celebration has little to do with flowers, that doesn’t mean we can’t add our own unique take on it! In this blog we’re going to make a DIY Mardi Gras bouquet that is sure to add a little color in your space!

Mardi Gras has been celebrated since the 18th century and has never ceased to bring celebration and enchantment every year. That said, we’re going to make a bouquet that mimics the same excitement that comes with the holiday and celebrations! What you’ll need:

  1. Medium height vase
  2. Party beads (specifically in purple, green and gold shades)
  3. Flowers
  4. Purple flowers that I recommend: lilac, purple daisies, lavender or hyacinth!
  5. Greenery of any kind but I have a strong preference for ivy, leather fern, silver dollar eucalyptus, baby blue and baby’s breath! (You can also use statice for some more purple flare.)
  6. Though there are no natural gold flowers, there are yellow flowers! Here are some I recommend! Sunflowers, marigolds, tulips, chrysanthemum, goldenrod and the primrose!
  7. (Optional) ribbon!

Let’s begin:

Step One: Start with your vase. You’re going to want to fill it with your Mardi Gras themed beads. There doesn’t have to be any order to this, do what you like!

Step two: Once the vase is filled with beads start to create your bouquet! If you’re not confident in your bouquet making skills, we have a blog that will help you, click here! Don’t forget, because there’s no water in your vase, your flowers are more prone to die faster! If you want to prolong their life, nestle a small glass into your vase and place your bouquet in the cup with water. Then you work around your cup and use the beads to hide it! Make this bouquet as extravagant as you want!

(Optional): You can always add feathers and Mardi Gras masks to the bouquet as well!

Step Three: now that you have your finished bouquet, you can wrap a beautiful ribbon around the vase and voila! You’ve got a beautiful and easy to make Mardi Gras bouquet!

Happy Winter! This time of year can tend to drag on as the days are shorter, temperatures are colder, and people wait patiently for the first signs of spring. That being said, there are plenty of activities to keep yourself occupied as the cold weather thaws away slowly. Easy for all ages to make; let’s create bottle cap snowmen ornaments!

What you need:

1. (3) bottle caps for each snowman

2. White paint

3. Black and orange paint pens (sharpies work too)

4. Small pom-poms (choose any color you’d like)

5. Sheets of felt material (choose any color you’d like)

6. Hot glue gun (glue sticks work too but with better results glue guns are preferred)

7. Winter or holiday ribbon

8. Small buttons (choose any color you’d like)

Let’s begin:

  1. Before we begin, assemble your ornaments pieces. With your colorful felt you can cut and create small hats, and scarves for your snowman. It’s simple. Just cut out 2D shapes of winter beanies and strips of felt (6/8 inches) for your scarves.
  2. You will glue those to the front of your snowman.
  3. Cut your holiday ribbon to a length that is suitable for your liking. Remember, this is going to be used to hang your ornament, so whatever length you cut make sure it’s enough when folded.
  4. With the bottle caps, you’re going to paint the entirety of it white, front and back! This task may feel tedious, but you’re going to want to repeat this if the white paint is streaking on the first coat. Wait until the paint is completely dry to continue.
  5. Once your paint is dry, take your markers and draw on the snowman’s eyes, coal and nose.
  6. Now, assemble all of your pieces together. Start simple: hot glue all your bottle caps together. Glue as you would a chain, from top to bottom, not back-to-back.
  7. Next, hot glue your ribbon to the back of the snowman’s head. Make sure it’s shaped like a loop so it can hang on hooks or branches!

Make the most of this snowy winter with fun at-home activities!

Written by our friends at Green Mountain Energy

Do you love summer farmers’ markets but wish you could use those flavors for a Thanksgiving cobbler? Wish you could reduce the waste from store-bought canned goods? Did your backyard garden give you way more produce than your household can possibly eat before it turns? It’s time to get canning!

Canning isn’t just for your grandparents anymore, but they were certainly onto something—it’s the greenest way to take your pantry to the next level. Home-canned food offers plenty of benefits, like:

– Seasonal produce year-round. Fresh fruits and vegetables found at the height of their season at your local farmers’ market in the summer can make a tasty appearance on your table any time of year.

-Knowing what’s in your food. Since the only thing in your canned food is what you put into it, it’s a good way to avoid artificial additives.

-Room for creativity. You can try out new recipes for jams, soups, salsas and more.

-Eco-friendliness. Canning cuts down on food waste, reduces emissions from transporting food, and minimizes single-use plastics.

-Saving time. Too rushed to make dinner from scratch? Reach for that yummy homemade soup or pasta sauce you canned in advance.

Before you get started, make sure you have the basics on hand:

This is just an overview of the canning process. Check out more detailed information from the National Center for Home Food Preservation. We hope you have a great time getting creative and cutting down on food waste with this time-honored activity!
