Market 32 and Price Chopper Present $303,965 to St. Peter's Hospital ALS Regional Center

Schenectady, N.Y., November 20, 2025–Market 32 and Price Chopper today presented a check for $303,965 to the St. Peter’s Hospital ALS Regional Center Lewis Golub MDA/ALS Clinic in Albany, NY. The funds—which will directly support patients diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)— were raised at the company’s annual Lewis Golub Memorial ALS Golf Classic on September 25 at Van Patten Golf Club in Clifton Park, NY.

“The ALS Center embodies the values that guided Lewis Golub and our company for generations—service, compassion, and a commitment to improving lives,” said Blaine Bringhurst, president of Market 32 and Price Chopper. “Our annual golf outing is more than a fundraiser; it’s a way for our teammates, partners, and community to honor his legacy and strengthen the Center’s vital work. We’re thrilled with the results of this fundraiser and the cumulative support that Market 32 and Price Chopper have helped provide to those living with ALS and their families.”

St. Peter’s Hospital ALS Regional Center provides a comprehensive, specialized blend of services and resources to patients diagnosed with ALS, sometimes referred to as Lou Gehrig’s disease. Since its inception in 2020, the annual golf event has raised over $1,127,500 for the ALS Clinic.

“We are profoundly grateful to Market32 and Price Chopper for their generous support of St. Peter’s ALS Center,” said Peter Semenza, vice president of philanthropy for St. Peter’s Health Partners. “Their commitment to philanthropy plays a crucial role in enhancing the quality of care for individuals living with Lou Gehrig’s disease. Together, we are making strides in St. Peter’s mission to provide compassionate support and innovative treatments for those affected by ALS.”

New Plush Hamsters Dressed to Impress are Scurrying into Market 32 and Price Chopper

Available for a limited time while supplies last, $3 from the sale of Gia the giraffe,
Kip the koala and Uri the unicorn will benefit Cure Rare Disease

Schenectady, N.Y. November 7, 2025Three new collectible plush hamsters, each dressed to delight in playful animal costumes, are available now for $10 each at all 129 Market 32 and Price Chopper locations. Perfect as affordable and adorable gifts this holiday season, these soft, huggable plush friends are sure to bring smiles to all ages. Best of all, $3 from each purchase supports Cure Rare Disease, a nonprofit biotech organization developing individualized, life-saving genetic medicines for ultra-rare conditions.

Gia, Kip, and Uri are soft and cuddly, with big personalities:

Uri adores many animals, but his favorite is the mythical unicorn. Although this magical creature hails from ancient legends, unicorns are actually the national animal of Scotland and are believed to represent grace. While hamsters and unicorns may seem worlds apart, both are considered symbols of luck in certain cultures. Uri may have never seen a unicorn in real life, but with magic, anything can happen.

On a recent adventure to Australia, Kip had his very first encounter with a koala. While hamsters are considered exotic rodents, koalas are native to Australia and belong to the marsupial family. These cuddly creatures thrive on a eucalyptus-based diet, munching through nearly two pounds of leaves each day. Although hamsters and koalas are quite different, they do share something in common: both are nocturnal, meaning they’re most active at night and love to snooze during the day!

Gia is a proud member of the rodent family, but her favorite animal is the magnificent giraffe. Found in the Sub-Saharan regions of Africa, giraffes are the tallest land animals on Earth, reaching heights of up to 18 feet; that’s close to 36 times taller than a hamster like Gia! Despite their size difference, hamsters and giraffes share a surprising similarity. Both mammals are herbivores, meaning they munch exclusively on plants and greens. Gia might be tiny, but she’s mighty, just like her long-necked idol, the giraffe!

Market 32 and Price Chopper are proud to offer fun, affordable, and meaningful ways to make the holidays brighter—and make a difference in the process. Partnering with organizations like Cure Rare Disease reflects the company’s commitment to caring for the communities it serves and helping support their overall health and well-being. A small gesture can make a big impact — one heartwarming hamster at a time.

Saratogs Performing Arts Center

We are proud of our longstanding partnership with Saratoga Performing Arts Center and the programming we have been able to support since 1990. The Creative Connections Program is a free program for children in local youth organizations. Our support helps to provide lunch and snacks for all who attend. Children explore creativity through music, dance, theatre, and visual arts with the SPAC School of Arts faculty and special guest artists. Www.spac.org

Animal Protective Foundation of Schenectady

Throughout the years we have partnered with Animal Protective Foundation of Schenectady to support the important work they do in our community by providing low-cost spay and neuter services, community-based wellness clinics, a pet food pantry, and low-cost medical services to our communities’ furry friends. Serving as a shelter to help re-home abandoned or homeless animals, APF reminds us that pets are family too! www.animalprotective.org

Food Pantries of the Capital District

For over 10 years, our partnership with the Food Pantries of The Capital District has grown and supported important hunger initiatives in our community. We support the Healthy Food Delivery Program throughout the Capital District, which provides food delivery to local pantries, a food shuttle, and home delivery to those that are homebound. As the exclusive grocer of Capital District CANstruction, several internal departments collaborate to provide all the inventory for the structures that are developed by local architectural firms each year. After being showcased for the public, all food items are donated to the Food Pantries. (Last year was over 41,000 items!)  www.thefoodpantries.org

To further solidify its presence in the Capital Region, Price Chopper/Market 32 announced today that it has just finalized the purchase of the leases, store equipment and fixtures of the five former ShopRite stores in the Capital Region with a desire to expand its local fleet of Market 32 stores.

“Our Market 32 brand has been extremely well received and this gives us an excellent opportunity to expand our footprint in the Capital Region, provide our customers with the shopping experience they are looking for and our teammates with career growth opportunities right here in our hometown,” said Blaine Bringhurst, Price Chopper/Market 32 president, who celebrated the grand re-openings of the chain’s 39th and 40th Market 32s in Rutland and W. Rutland, Vermont last month.

While the company is still evaluating all its options, the plan is to convert the current ShopRite stores in Niskayuna and North Greenbush into Market 32s. The Slingerlands location, which sits directly across the street from an award-winning Market 32, will be marketed for sublease. As discussions with landlords in Albany and Colonie continue, decisions will be made about the future of those properties and the current Price Chopper/Market 32 stores which are located nearby in Westgate and Colonie Plazas. Current teammates will be prioritized in staffing whichever of the locations are ultimately occupied.

All told, the new Market 32 stores would create more options for customers, provide existing teammates with an opportunity to transfer to a more convenient location, and may create new opportunities once the stores open. Price Chopper/Market 32 does not intend to operate the gas stations.

“Price Chopper/Market 32 is excited at the prospect of growing scale right here in New York’s Capital Region, where we’ve been serving customers for more than 90 years. We have always been and will remain an employer of choice for our valued teammates. We are here to stay and will continue to invest in modernizing our stores, providing opportunities to our workforce, delivering an exceptional shopping experience to our customers, and supporting the community around us,” said Bringhurst.

The holidays are a beautiful time of year. While it is important to give thanks for all we have, the holidays are also a wonderful reminder to give back. Price Chopper and Market 32 are proud to participate in Giving Tuesday, which takes place on November 28th this year. All teammates received a nomination form for a charity they feel should be recognized if they chose. A committee member was selected to evaluate all nominations and pick a winner from each state where our stores are located (New York, Massachusetts, Vermont, Connecticut, New Hampshire, and Pennsylvania). Each charity that was chosen received a $1,000 grant by the company!

Giving Tuesday was created in 2012 and is recognized as a global day of generosity. Giving Tuesday has grown into a global movement that encourages people to give back, volunteer, donate, and do good.

It’s a simple idea: whether it’s making someone smile, helping a neighbor or stranger out, showing up for an issue or people we care about, or giving some of what we have to those who need our help, every act of generosity counts and everyone has something to contribute toward building the better world we all want to live in (Giving Tuesday).”

Round up your change at checkout and help support the Salvation Army.

Price Chopper/Market 32 will match all donations, up to $5,000.

This holiday season, The Salvation Army expects to see a greater need for our services – more than any in recent history.

Unemployment rates are expected to be 10%-11%, and based on the increased service we’ve already provided this year due to COVID-19, we need resources to serve up to 155% more people with Christmas assistance.

COVID-19 has not only created a bigger need for us to fill, it has also decreased the number of traditional red kettles you’re used to seeing on street corners and at store entrances each Christmas season. In fact, we could see up to a 50% decrease in red kettle funds this year due to several factors, including:

  • Consumers carrying less cash and fewer coins
  • More online shopping, which means less foot traffic in shopping areas
  • Unemployment rates
  • Recent closures of some brick-and-mortar retail stores

More than 54 million people may face food insecurity because of coronavirus. Round up your change to support the fight against hunger.

According to the website of Feeding America, a United States-based nonprofit network of over 200 food banks that feed more than 46 million people:

Millions of children and families living in America face hunger and food insecurity every day.

  • Due to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic, more than 54 million people may experience food insecurity in 2020, including a potential 18 million children.
  • According to the USDA’s latest Household Food Insecurity in the United States report, more than 35 million people in the United States struggled with hunger in 2019.
  • In 2018, 14.3 million American households were food insecure with limited or uncertain access to enough food.
  • Households with children are more likely to experience food insecurity. Before the coronavirus pandemic, more than 10 million children live in food-insecure households.
  • Every community in the country is home to families who struggle with food insecurity including rural and suburban communities.
  • Many households that experience food insecurity do not qualify for federal nutrition programs and need to rely on their local food banks and other hunger relief organizations for support.
